Turning subscribers into revenue

How many offers should a new-subscriber offer wall show?

Short answer

Three at most per subscriber segment, and one of them should be "not right now." For homeowners I cap it at two real offers. Judge it on clicks first, not revenue.

An offer wall is the page a new subscriber sees after the survey: a few local deals or services picked for them based on their answers. Show too many and they bail.

My rules

  • Three options max per segment.
  • Always include "not right now." New subscribers shouldn't feel trapped.
  • Homeowners get two. For example, a homeowner's insurance quote plus pest control or house cleaning.

How the routing works

Mine asks whether they have kids or pets, own or rent, own a business, and plan to buy or sell a home in the next 12 months. A yes on buying or selling surfaces a realtor's card and sends the lead straight to that agent. It's basically fancy Google Forms with conditional logic, on my own domain, with the newsletter platform just handling tags. I built it myself, part time, over about a month.

One trick: when a subscriber clicks a local deal, send them to your own advertiser page, not the advertiser's website. Their site is usually bad, and you capture the lead a second time.

Measure clicks first

My first success metric was click rate on the offers, not revenue. Even $0 is fine early. You're proving subscribers will click before you optimize for money.
