Who are the best advertisers for a local newsletter?

Short answer

Med spas, estate planners, custom home builders, and personal injury attorneys. My local audiences skew upper-middle-class women 40 to 70 who own their homes, and those businesses want exactly that reader. Nonprofits and visitor bureaus are the easy yes.

Start with who reads you, then find who pays to reach them.

Across my local newsletters the reader looks the same: upper-middle-class women, 40 to 70, homeowners, above-average household income. That's a dream audience for anyone selling a high-ticket local service.

Highest-value fits

  • Med spas
  • Estate planners
  • Custom home builders
  • Personal injury attorneys, which I heard about from other operators at a conference

The low-friction yes

Nonprofits have budgets they're required to spend locally, and they don't need lead-gen ROI math to justify it. A nonprofit sponsored one of our business dinners and wants to fund more.

Visitor bureaus are an untapped vertical. They get a mandated share of hotel tax revenue that has to be spent, which makes them a high-budget, low-resistance prospect for Meta ads and local media alike.

One more: your own subscribers

Some of your readers own businesses. I built a media kit builder so they can click "send me your media kit" instead of filling out a form with their name, phone, and website. Lower friction, warmer lead.
