Should I start a newsletter agency for YouTubers and podcasters?
Short answer
I think it's a massive opportunity. Most YouTubers have no owned channel to reach their best fans, and the smart big ones already pay agencies thousands a month, probably for work done by hand. An issue can take about 15 minutes. Sell growth and monetization, with the writing included, and land the first creator cheap.
Every YouTuber should have a newsletter. Most don't.
Why should creators have a newsletter?
It's an owned channel. A newsletter lets a creator notify their best audience every time they release something and get in front of them directly.
It's also a place to sell. Think about B2B and personal development creators selling a course, a mastermind or a product. The newsletter can carry ads for their own offers.
How much work is each issue?
Not much anymore. I mocked up a recap newsletter for a show, and the next episode's issue would take me about 15 minutes to make.
The people already doing this for creators are probably doing it by hand. That's the gap. Do it for half the price, and automate.
What can you charge?
"there are YouTubers paying thousands of dollars a month to agencies to do this for them. And that's the smart ones. Most of them do nothing, right?"
The really smart ones would pay somebody about $2,000 a month if they're big enough. It depends on how big they are. Becoming a YouTube newsletter agency is a massive opportunity.
How do you land the first creator?
Remove the risk. Two ways I'd do it:
- Take a cut instead of a fee: you don't have to pay me anything, just pay me 30% of any money I bring you.
- Do the first one for free, then use it as proof when you go to other YouTubers.
I'd honestly do one for free right now, for exactly that reason.
Should you sell the writing or the growth?
The growth. "I don't want to write a newsletter" is a vitamin. It helps, but it won't make anyone jump to pay $1,000 or $2,000 a month.
The painkiller is making them money. Help a creator with a big, growing audience make money from the onboarding flow and you're making them a ton of money. The offer becomes: we'll do everything about getting you subscribers, give you the best possible welcome flow and make you money when people subscribe. And of course we can write it.
The pieces are the same ones I care about for my own lists: monetizing a subscriber at signup and a strong welcome sequence.
Does this fit with other newsletter services?
Yes. My vision in 2025 was one agency doing several newsletter jobs: newsletters for influencers, the local newsletter franchise, and newsletters for businesses. Doing it for a creator and doing it for a business are basically the same work. See done-for-you newsletters for businesses.
